The Love of Grandmothers

I have my grandmothers to thank for the foundation of my coaching practice.

I had the good fortune of being loved and formed by my maternal and paternal grandmothers. My maternal grandmother (also known as my city grandmother) filled my life with art, music, theater, books, and learning the art of civility. My paternal grandmother (known as my country grandma) was all about nature, freedom, care for animals and underdogs, and the safest place in my world. What they both gave me was the gift of knowing that I was loved, valued, seen, and that I mattered. I never felt judged or criticized by either of them. When I made mistakes or was messy in my behavior, they guided me towards learning with compassion. I was ‘enough’ in their eyes and hearts.

This is the space I offer to my clients. I have learned a great deal since those days about how we develop an identity, how our wounds impact us, and how to let go of old stories to live into a new narrative that is more empowering.

I invite you to reflect on the people in your life that have lifted you up, inspired you, or in whose company you experienced unconditional love and acceptance.
